Student Profile-Garin Hyde, Videographer/Photographer

If you have been in the broadcasting department for even one hour then you have probably heard his name. Garin Hyde actually came to Gaston College with the intent to study radio and has since found his calling in the video field. He has been making independent films since 1998 with friends. He never pursued a career in his passion until he came to Gaston College because he, “never thought it would go anywhere”.  Since he started the program 3 semesters ago, Garin has become a standout student.
Garin immediately jumped into things in the BPT program by assuming the role of Vice President of The Student Broadcasting Club. After passing on that torch this semester, he remains active in the department by shooting events for the college with the A/V crew, and helping to direct shows in the television studio.  While he is not an official department tutor, students often come to him for help with video projects, and he is always happy to assist.
“I’ve made amazing friends and connections and that alone is worth being in this department," Garin said.
He has a natural talent and love for what he does and it shows. He recently started his own business, Hydeography, after being laid off from his job of 10 years. His business has begun to flourish after only a few months. He does both photography and videography for weddings, model shoots, engagement shoots, music videos, and more.
